Mid-winter update

The middle of winter is upon us, bringing the full range of seasonal weather. Since the beginning of June, we've received nearly 300 mm (12 inches) of rain, so the wetlands are certainly living up to their name! We've also enjoyed frosty nights followed by beautiful, sunny, crisp days, and so far we've been spared the worst of the winter winds.
Unfortunately, a number of the trees planted last year have been destroyed by rabbits. It seems everyone in the area has been dealing with the same problem!
On a more positive note, we were fortunate to receive a grant from the Plant Ark Foundation. The funding has enabled us to purchase a large number of native tubestock, along with reeds and sedges to enhance the wetlands. We've also been able to buy additional tree guards, which provide essential protection for the young plants.
We're tentatively planning a community planting day for Saturday, 15 August, weather permitting. We'll share more details as the date approaches—we hope you'll be able to join us!
