Seasonal Update

It has been a little while since our last update as the garden has slowly transitioned from summer into autumn.
While there has not been a great deal of visible activity on site in recent months, the changing seasons have brought some welcome relief. During April and May we were fortunate to receive around 120mm (just under five inches) of rain. This has been enough to maintain some water in the wetlands and keep the surface soil damp, bringing a welcome touch of green back to the landscape.
However, beneath the surface the ground remains quite dry, meaning conditions have not yet been suitable for new plantings. Establishing young native trees and grasses requires good deep soil moisture, and patience at this stage will give future plantings the best possible chance to thrive.
We are now expecting a significant amount of rain over the coming week, which we hope will provide the deeper soaking needed to prepare the site for late autumn, early winter planting activities. With cooler weather arriving and hopefully more consistent rainfall, we are looking forward to the next stage of establishing the garden and continuing to bring the vision for Mark’s Country Place to life.
