Spring has Sprung at MCP
Spring is definitely in the air with blossom, new leaves, daffodils, longer days and warmer weather. Sadly, owing to Covid-19, the 48th annual Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival has been postponed until 2021. The festival is well known for visual and performing arts, crafts, gardens, flower shows, markets and hospitality with fun for everyone, but just not this year.
With the change of season has come progress on the Use Permit which is very encouraging. We have been asked to clarify some issues and also provide extra information on a number of items, including a Traffic Impact Report, an Emergency and Evacuation Plan and more detailed information for the Water Authority.
Heavy rains that we experienced three weeks ago left the dense black clay soil, for which Kyneton is renowned, water logged and saturated. As a result of the rains, we learned more about the water flow across the property. Drainage is something we have always suspected would have to be improved, and after consulting with a drainage expert, we are assured that this will not be a difficult task. In fact, we may be able to turn it to advantage by creating a wetland area.
However with the advent of warmer days, the ground has dried remarkably quickly, allowing for grass slashing before the beginning of the summer fire season. We had our first brown snake sighting of the season 10 days ago, a reminder to walk with caution, especially before the grass is slashed.
We look forward to posting our next blog article soon as we move forward with the Use Permit.
