A Little Local History
Kyneton (pop. approx 7,000) is a town in the Macedon Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. The Calder Freeway bypasses Kyneton to the north and east. The town was named after the English village of Kineton in Warwickshire. Kyneton was established in 1850 prior to the Victorian gold rushes which started one year later in 1851. The town which was a growing rural centre, served as a major stop for those heading to the gold rushes at Bendigo and Mt Alexander.
Some Geology
You may be interested to know why the address of this property is Deep Lead Lane. It refers to the large aquifer underneath the ground. A deep lead (pronounced leed) is an ancient river bed or paleochannel, that has been buried by sedimentor basalt from volcanic lava flows occurring thousands of years ago. Deep lead aquifers usually store and transmit large volumes of water.
