Tree Planting Day – A Great Success

We were truly blessed in so many ways on Saturday 5th July for our tree planting day.

Things kicked off on Friday, when Peter and Andrew generously shared their horticultural expertise to help us mark out the locations for all 115 native trees that make up the future grassy woodland. The weather was kind to us, with both Friday and Saturday bringing mild, sunny conditions—perfect for working outdoors.

Saturday began with a relaxed sausage sizzle at the maintenance area car park before we got to work planting the trees and 45 native grasses. Despite receiving nearly 100mm (almost 4 inches) of rain in the lead-up, the soil remained surprisingly dry. Fortunately, the planting didn’t require deep holes, which made the work much more manageable.

Each tree and grass was fitted with a biodegradable tree guard and stake to protect them from the many rabbits and kangaroos in the area.

Across the project, we had about 15 wonderful volunteers who helped with everything from digging and staking to providing tools, a water trailer, and good cheer. We’re incredibly grateful for their time, energy, and encouragement.

Since the planting day, we’ve received an additional 14mm (just over half an inch) of rain, which will go a long way in helping the new plants settle in and thrive.

Mark’s Country Place is now growing!
